What does nosnippet do?

In short

nosnippet is a robots meta rule that stops search engines from showing any text from a page in results, including in Google's AI Overviews. The page can still rank.

To protect only part of a page, add data-nosnippet to the element instead. max-snippet:50 caps how much text can be quoted. All of these reduce how much search engines and AI features can quote from you, so use them deliberately.

Does blocking AI crawlers hurt your Google rankings?

No. Blocking AI training crawlers, including Google's own Google-Extended token, doesn't change your Google rankings, and it doesn't remove you from AI Overviews or AI Mode. Only blocking Googlebot does that, and that removes you from Google Search altogether.
